Gebiet der Leibniz-Forschung. Er wird in der Regel alle fünf
bis sechs Jahre von der Gottfried-Wilhelm-Leibniz-Gesellschaft
in Zusammenarbeit mit wechselnden

11th International Leibniz Congress
"Le present est plein de l’avenir, et
chargé du passé"
31st July - 4th August
2023, Leibniz University Hannover
Conti-Campus, Königsworther Platz 1, 30167 Hannover, Germany / Welfengarten 1, 30167 Hannover, Germany
The 11th International Leibniz
Congress, which, due to the pandemic, had to be postponed until
2023, is under the motto "Le present est plein de l'avenir, et
chargé du passé" ("The present is big with the future and laden
with the past"), a quote from Leibniz's Nouveaux essais sur
l'entendement humain (1704). It illustrates the ongoing
relevance of Leibniz's philosophy to current, seemingly distant
debates and invites us to make such connections.
The congress represents an
important opportunity to revive the international contact among
Leibniz researchers, limited during the pandemic, and enables
younger researchers to join the Leibniz community.
Since the last congress in 2016,
the corpus of indexed and edited Leibniz writings and letters
has grown considerably. New digital research tools have been
made available. Leibniz's correspondence as well as some of his
writings have now been edited reliably right down to the last
decade.
The current topics of Leibniz
research, which benefit from this new material and which will
also shape the Leibniz Congress, are very diverse and often
interdisciplinary.
In order to promote the exchange
among Leibniz researchers in advance, participants are
expressly called upon to submit section proposals in addition
to individual talks.
In order to promote a new
generation of researchers, the third doctoral school will now
take place directly before the congress with internationally
renowned supervisors. With the support of the VGH Insurance
Company (based in Hannover) for the second time, outstanding
PhD theses on Leibniz from all over the world are being invited
to compete for prizes; the awards ceremony will take place at
the congress.
All interested researchers,
experts and friends are invited to participate. Information
about registration deadlines, the registering of talks and
guidelines on the contributions as well as more detailed
explanations of how the congress will proceed will be announced
in circulars and published in due course on the congress’s
homepage.
